Part one of MANY ๐Ÿ˜
Hello Everyone~! โค๏ธ
HI ALLL~!!! Hope you're all doing amazing today and enjoying the great weather (wherever you are - I hope it's good haha)
TEUIDA is back with another weekly newsletter!!!! One of you gave me this GREAT idea do to a detailed look on different K-dramas.

For this series, we will be either looking at one K-drama (or different ones) and learning Korean from specific scenes. This week, we will be doing Interest of Love Episode 1!! Let's watch it and learn together :) (It's on netflix!)

                               From, Sherlyโค๏ธ

01. Interest of Love
I loved this drama the first time I watched it and I REALLY think you all will too! Don't worry we will be switching dramas so LEAVE your recommendation/one you want to learn from below and I'll do that one next (form at the end of the newsletter)

The reason I chose this drama is 1. because one of you asked for it and 2. I agree that it is a really good drama to learn Korean from -- the language isn't very advanced ๐ŸŽ

For some background, this drama follows co-workers in a bank which is called "KCU Bank." Su-Yeong the main character isn't the most financially secure and doesn't really believe in eternal love. Sang-su pursues an ordinary and consistent life and believes that is best for his happiness. Mi-Gyeong is super rich and knows exactly what she wants and pursues her happiness. Jong-Hyeon works at the bank as a security guard and wants to be a police officer.
02. This week's scene! ๐ŸŽ
Episode 1 - 18:44 - 19:27
In this scene the two are headed for Jeju to return a customer's card. They are just co-workers so the situation is a bit awkward but to add to the awkwardness, the person sitting next to Sang-su is taking up a lot of his space.

(Sangsu is visibly uncomfortable)
(Su-yeong lifts the arm rest betweek them)

Su-yeong: ์ด์ œ ์ข€ ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์ฃ ? (That's better now, right?)
Sang-su: ์•„, ๋„ค (ah, yes)
Su-yeong: ํ•˜ ๊ณ„์žฅ๋‹˜์ด๋ž‘ ์ œ์ฃผ๋„๋ฅผ ๋‹ค ๊ฐ€ ๋ณด๋„ค์š” (Can't believe I'm going to jeju with you)
Sang-su: ๋„ค, ๊ทธ๋Ÿฌ๊ฒŒ์š” (yeah, I know right?)

While this might not seem like MUCH, there are so many important things to learn from just this conversation!!!!

Let's learn!!!!!
03. Scene Takeaways ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
    1. ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์ฃ
    2. ์ œ์ฃผ๋„๋ฅผ ๋‹ค ๊ฐ€ ๋ณด๋„ค์š”
    3. ๊ทธ๋Ÿฌ๊ฒŒ์š”

๊ดœ์ฐฎ์ฃ
You won't see this one in textbooks! But this is commonly used, it means "That's okay right?" It is a way to seek agreement in Korean (adding the ์ฃ ).

If you were to ask a question it would be ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์•„์š”? but if you want to seek agreement and add "right?" you would make it ๊ดœ์ฐฎ์ฃ ? You can use this in other ways too for example ๋ง›์žˆ์–ด์š”? --> ๋ง›์žˆ์ฃ ?

The sentence turns from is it tasty? to it's tasty right?

ํ•˜ ๊ณ„์žฅ๋‹˜์ด(์ƒ์ˆ˜)๋ž‘ ์ œ์ฃผ๋„๋ฅผ ๋‹ค ๊ฐ€ ๋ณด๋„ค์š”
Yes this sentence means "can't believe we're going to Jeju together" BUT WHERE IS THE BELIEVE, well it's in the way she says the sentence. This is a little advanced but a beginner learner would read this and say "I am going to Jeju with Ha Gye-Jang Nim (Sang-su)" But the way she says ๋‹ค ๊ฐ€ ๋ณด๋„ค์š” contextually means "can't believe I am" It's confusing but think of it like in English when we say "We're really going all the way to Jeju-do together" An English beginner would just think ok they're going to Jeju BUT contextually the emphasis on the "really" and "all the way" would make it seem like going to Jeju-do is unexpected.

That is exactly what ๊ฐ€ ๋ณด๋„ค์š” is insinuating!

๊ทธ๋Ÿฌ๊ฒŒ์š”
This is a GREAT phrase to learn because it means so many things.

It means: "I agree", "I know, right" , "No kidding!", "You're right", "That makes sense"

It is an overall phrase used to agree with someone but the way you say it changes the meaning. If you said it like :( ๊ทธ๋Ÿฌ๊ฒŒ์š”.... it would be "yeah...I guess/i know"
but if you said it like :D ๊ทธ๋Ÿฌ๊ฒŒ์š”! it would be "You're right!" In this case it is just a "I know right" because he doesn't say it with much emotion

I hope that makes sense!!!!!
04. Review
We learnt so much from just ONE SCENE!!! Make sure to review what we learned and try to apply it to other situations and instances~ I promise these will really make the difference in your language learning journey -- learning things CONTEXTUALLY and with awareness to culture and nuance~!

LOVE YOU ALL, hope you enjoyed and make sure to let me know what drama you want next week! (Or if you want to continue this one)

+ WATCH THE DRAMA IT IS SO GOOD ๐Ÿ˜‹
