We bring you useful information and news from Hive! Greetings from the Hive Platform! 😊
Recently, a global shopping mall operated by a Chinese company was imposed a fine for violating the Personal Information Protection Act in Korea. Even overseas companies cannot avoid domestic laws if they handle the personal information of Korean users.
So, what should game companies prepare for?
Following our previous global edition, this Hive Insight covers Domestic Compliance. Let’s take a look at the compliance features Hive provides!

🎮 Proving Game Service Reliability Through Compliance |
🔐 Why Are Consent Procedures Necessary? |
When starting a game service, the very first thing users encounter is the consent screen. During service, you’ll collect various types of consent—such as for Terms of Service, personal information collection and use, and push notifications. This isn’t just a formality; it serves key purposes:
To ensure users clearly understand the conditions under which they are using the service. To protect personal information securely and comply with relevant laws. To let users choose the information and features they want to receive.
In short, the consent process marks the start of operating your game service and is essential for building a trusted service. |

☑️ Terms & Personal Information Consent |
Before using the service, users must explicitly agree to the Terms of Service and personal information usage.
Hive provides an easy way to set up the necessary terms and personal information consent for domestic services. You can configure pop-ups for both required and optional items, including Terms of Service, personal information collection and use, and overseas transfer consent.
Consent pop-ups are displayed only upon the first game launch. Once agreed to, they will not appear again—unless the terms change and re-consent is required, in which case they will appear on the next game launch. A “View Terms” link is also provided within the app or website so users can review them anytime. |
☑️ Push Notification Consent |
To send advertising messages such as event pushes, prior consent from the recipient is required. Under Korean law, sending push notifications between 9 PM and 8 AM requires separate nighttime delivery consent.
Hive offers templates to easily configure consent pop-ups for both event push and nighttime push, ensuring you meet legal requirements. |
Under the Youth Protection Act, players under 19 must have guardian consent to sign up and use the game.
Hive supports this by verifying age via mobile phone authentication during PC game registration. If the player is a minor, additional guardian consent is required. Game access is determined based on the guardian consent result, ensuring compliance. |
If your game is rated “Restricted to Minors,” players under 19 must be restricted from access.
Hive provides a feature to verify age via mobile phone authentication, allowing only verified adults to play. Adult verification is valid for one year, after which re-verification is automatically carried out. |
