ASEZ Holds the ZERO Plastic 2040 Youth Forum at BEXCO, Busan

Plastic pollution is an urgent issue that requires collective efforts from the international community to address. To tackle this problem, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) held the International Negotiating Committee (INC) meetings to create a legally binding convention on plastic production and pollution. Since 2022, four meetings have been held, with the final 5th meeting taking place in November 2024 at BEXCO, Busan, Korea.

On November 6, 2024, ASEZ visited the San Isidro City Council in Argentina to receive a certificate of appreciation for their volunteer work as part of the “Worldwide Cleanup of 14 Major Plastic-Polluted Beaches and Streams” initiative.

In October, ASEZ conducted global cleanup activities based on the “ZERO Plastic 2040” campaign in 14 countries, including the United States, the Philippines, and Brazil. These efforts focused on cleaning up the world’s 14 most polluted beaches and rivers. The campaign, aiming to create a plastic-free world by 2040, was successfully carried out in Argentina as well.

ASEZ Hosts Environmental Forum at IPN, Mexico

Mexico has been facing serious environmental issues, ranking 11th to 13th in greenhouse gas emissions among UN member states over the past 20 years. As a result, various discussions aimed at addressing environmental problems have been actively taking place, driven by the government and civil organizations. In this context, the ASEZ Forum for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held on December 9, 2024, at IPN (Spanish: Instituto Politécnico Nacional, meaning National Polytechnic Institute) in Mexico. The forum was organized by ASEZ members who are currently studying at IPN, and it was designed to raise awareness about environmental protection and encourage all sectors of society to take action.

Global Issue

Climate Justice

Today, climate change has emerged as a serious global issue. Notably, marginalized communities, such as low-income groups, indigenous peoples, and people of color, are bearing the brunt of its effects. For example, most African countries, despite emitting relatively small amounts of greenhouse gases, are always among the most severely impacted regions on maps illustrating the consequences of climate change.
