Hello Everyone~! ❤ī¸
HI everyone~!!! Hope you're all having a greatttt week!!!!  TEUIDA is back with another weekly newsletter!!!! We will be continuing our series on K-drama's and you guys loved the Interest of Love so we will be doing episode 2 this week!!!!! For a reminder,

For this series, we will be either looking at one K-drama (or different ones) and learning Korean from specific scenes. Let's watch it and learn together :) (It's on netflix! If you haven't watched Ep 1 & 2 yet, let's do it!!!!!)

                               From, Sherly❤ī¸

01. Interest of Love (reiterated)
I loved this drama the first time I watched it and I REALLY think you all will too! Don't worry we will be switching dramas so LEAVE your recommendation/one you want to learn from below and I'll do that one next (form at the end of the newsletter)

The reason I chose this drama is 1. because one of you asked for it and 2. I agree that it is a really good drama to learn Korean from -- the language isn't very advanced 🍎

For some background, this drama follows co-workers in a bank which is called "KCU Bank." Su-Yeong the main character isn't the most financially secure and doesn't really believe in eternal love. Sang-su pursues an ordinary and consistent life and believes that is best for his happiness. Mi-Gyeong is super rich and knows exactly what she wants and pursues her happiness. Jong-Hyeon works at the bank as a security guard and wants to be a police officer.
02. This week's scene! 🍎
Episode 2 ( 32:42 -
In this scene one of Su-yeong's coworkers is asking her if she wants to be set up on a blind date and this is the conversation that ensues.

Eun-jeong: ė‚ŧė „ 다니는 남ėžė¸ë° ė–ŧęĩ´ë„ ę´œė°ŽëŒ€ėš” ... ėƒę°ėžˆė–´ėš”? (it's a guy that works at Sam-jeon. He isn't bad looking... what do you think?)
Gu-il (another co-worker): 똤, ė†Œę°œíŒ…? (ooo a blind date?)
Su-yeong: ė•„니ėš”, ę´œė°Žė•„ėš”. (no, it's okay)

While this might not seem like MUCH, there are so many things you can learn from this short and simple conversation!!!

03. Scene Takeaways 😃
    1. ę´œė°ŽëŒ€ėš”
    2. ėƒę°ėžˆė–´ėš”?
    3. ė†Œę°œíŒ…?

ę´œė°ŽëŒ€ėš”
This phrase is one that isn't commonly taught, especially to beginners BUT it is so simple to learn if you just understand how to use it in real life. First of all, you might not have seen the ~대ėš” ending yet but it is used when you are trying to relay what someone/some people said to someone else.

For example: the base of this sentence could be "ę´œė°Žė•„ėš”" but if you are saying that someone else said that it is ę´œė°Žė•„ you would add 대ėš” which basically turns the sentence from "it's okay" to "[they said] it's okay"

In this context, she is talking about a guy that she's never personally met so shes saying "He's not bad looking" but adding the 대ėš” means that someone else told her that he isn't bad looking.

Let's see some examples:
맛ėžˆëŒ€ėš”!  (they said it's good)
ėĸ‹ëŒ€ėš”! (they said they like it!)
ėž˜ėƒę˛ŧ대ėš”! (they said he's handsome!)

ėƒę°ėžˆė–´ėš”?
This phrase is one that is also not commonly taught but it basically means "What do you think?" or "Do you want to do it?" or "Are you considering it?/Do you consider it?"

Instead of asking someone "하ęŗ ė‹ļė–´ėš”?" which means "do you want to do it" you could ask them "ėƒę°ėžˆė–´ėš”?" which translates to "do you have thoughts?" literally but it means "do you have thoughts of ... doing (something)" It is a more polite and light way of asking someone what they think about doing something that you're suggesting!

ė†Œę°œíŒ…
This is just a term that I think you guys would benefit from learning! It is the korean word for "blind date" but that is the translation that most people use BUT it's not just a blind date it means a date that you go on from being introduced by someone else (a common person). It means that someone else is setting you guys up! So blind date isn't the culturally contexual translation but it's the easy one!

I hope that makes sense!!!!!
04. Review
We learnt so much from just ONE SCENE!!! Make sure to review what we learned and try to apply it to other situations and instances~ I promise these will really make the difference in your language learning journey -- learning things CONTEXTUALLY and with awareness to culture and nuance~!

Word of the Week ❤ī¸
I'm going to give you a word every week and you guys have to try to make a sentence with that word!!! đŸ”Ĩ

Word of the week: ė†Œę°œíŒ…
