Toward a Plastic-Free Future: “Zero Plastic 2040” Gains Momentum in India
In August, ASEZ carried out its “Zero Plastic 2040” initiative in India to reduce plastic pollution, holding a total of 11 seminars, forums, and meetings. Approximately 1,600 people participated, including 64 key figures from government agencies, universities, and specialized institutions. These activities resulted in 30 signatures of support and four memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with universities and specialized institutions.
The message shared at the “ASEZ Green Concert for a Plastic-Free India,” held in Hyderabad in February, carried forward into cleanup activities, meetings with government officials, a global forum, and partnerships with universities and specialized institutions in August. University students collected waste at cleanup sites and discussed practical ways to reduce plastic use with representatives from various sectors. |

Around September 1, Peru’s Tree Day, ASEZ university students carried out tree-planting activities and held an environmental seminar in Faucett and Arequipa. Working with local governments and community members, the students raised awareness of the importance of trees and forests while putting environmental protection into practice. On August 31, ASEZ members from Faucett, Peru, partnered with the Breña District Municipality to plant trees in Pedro D’Onofrio Park and Oxapampa Park.
Approximately 55 people participated in the activity, including the National University of San Marcos (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos), the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú), and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas), along with their family members and acquaintances. Together, they planted approximately 230 trees across the two parks. In addition to planting trees, participants collected fallen leaves and litter from roads near the parks. They also introduced ASEZ’s environmental protection activities to local residents and raised awareness of the importance of taking action for the environment in everyday life.

Building a Safer Campus Together: “Reduce Crime Together” Seminar Held in Urdaneta, Philippines
Schools are places where students learn, grow, and spend much of their daily lives. To ensure that students feel safe at school, it is important to identify potential risks in advance and encourage everyone in the school community to take an active interest in safety. Safety in and around schools has also become a growing concern in the Philippines. On June 23, 2026, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) expressed concern over incidents of violence in and around schools at the start of the new school year. UNICEF emphasized the need to strengthen violence prevention and child protection systems, provide psychosocial support, and identify potential risks at an early stage. On August 17, a “Reduce Crime Together (RCT) Seminar” was held at Lyceum Northern Luzon in Urdaneta City, Philippines. Centered on ASEZ’s Reduce Crime Together (RCT) Project, the seminar brought together local government officials, police officers, university representatives and students to explore ways to create safer campuses and communities.

The 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) will take place in Antalya, Türkiye, from November 9 to 20, 2026. COP, short for “Conference of the Parties,” was first held in Berlin, Germany, in 1995 and marks its 31st session this year. This year’s conference will be jointly led by Türkiye, the host country, and Australia, which will serve as President of Negotiations. This unusual arrangement has attracted international attention even before the conference begins. The Turkish COP31 Presidency has designated this year’s conference the “Implementation COP,” reflecting its determination to turn years of climate commitments into concrete action. |
