'서도호의 독백'이라는 작가의 발표로 시작된 이번 아티스트 토크는 서도호 작가가 실험적으로 집을 다룬 초기부터 현재까지 이어지는 여정을 소개한 특별한 시간이었습니다. 이어진 김선정 예술감독과의 대화에서 작업 과정에서의 즐거움과 어려움, 전시와 함께 출판된 스케치북 제작에 관해 이야기 나눌 수 있었습니다.
The artist talk began with Do Ho Suh’s presentation, where he introduced his experimental approach to the concept of ‘home’ over time. This was followed by a conversation with Artistic Director Sunjung Kim. They shared the joys and challenges of his creative process, as well as his sketchbook, published alongside the exhibition. |

지난주 토요일 아트선재센터는 하종현 작가의 초기 작업을 세 발표자와 함께 다각도로 살펴보며 흥미로운 대화를 나눴습니다. 신정훈은 1970년대 하종현을 물질주의자이자 회화 이상의 방식을 고민한 작가로 조명한 한편, 정연심은 하종현의 1969년부터 1975년까지를 살피며 〈도시계획백서〉 연작과 실험미술로 넘어가는 시기를 다루었습니다. 1960-1970년대 대만 화단과 비교를 통해 레슬리 마는 하종현을 국제적 맥락에서 소개했는데요. 이번 심포지엄은 내년 2025년 2월 개막할 하종현 작가의 개인전 일환으로 기획된 만큼 다가올 전시에도 많은 관심 바랍니다.
Last Saturday, Art Sonje Center held an engaging conversation with three presenters, who explored Ha Chong-Hyun’s early works from various perspectives. Chunghoon Shin examined Ha Chong-Hyun in the 1970s as a materialist who pushed the boundaries of traditional painting, while Yeon Shim Chung focused on Ha’s 1969-1975 period, discussing his White Paper on Urban Planning series and the transition to experimental art. Lesley Ma placed Ha Chong-Hyun in an international context, drawing comparisons with the Taiwanese art scene of the 1960s and 1970s. This symposium was organized as part of Ha Chong-hyun’s solo exhibition, opening in February 2025. |

어느덧 6번째 회차를 맞이한 도슨트 학교는 아트선재센터의 대표적인 교육 프로그램 중 하나로 자리잡고 있습니다. 8주간의 교육 프로그램은 전시를 사전에 이해할 수 있도록 배경이 될 큐레이터, 작가, 연구자의 강연을 제공하며, 참여자는 스크립트를 작성하고 시연하는 시간을 갖습니다. 12월 개막 예정인 《언두 플래닛: 기억 (비) 물질 흐름》, 《이끼바위쿠르르: 거꾸로 사는 돌》에 많은 기대 부탁드립니다.
Now in its sixth edition, Docent School, has become one of Art Sonje Center’s signature educational programs. This 8-week course features lectures by curators and researchers, providing participants with valuable insights into upcoming exhibitions. Participants also have dedicated time to draft scripts and receive feedback from educators. Stay tuned for our exhibitions in December! |

《서도호: 스페큘레이션스》는 우화적 스토리텔링으로 현실과 환상을 넘나드는 서도호의 작업을 통해 동시대적 삶에 대한 시적인 성찰을 불러일으킵니다. 인간과 환경의 변화하는 관계 속에 제기되는 위기와 도전을 사변적 사유로 대응하며, 정서적이고 육체적인 삶의 복합성에 접근하는 새로운 가능성을 찾습니다. 이번 전시는 서도호가 펼치는 사유의 여정을 따라 물리적 현실과 개념적 상상의 경계를 오가는 새로운 시각을 제시합니다. 나아가 교차하는 문화와 초국가적 삶의 조건, 지속 가능한 미래의 시공간을 유추하며 지구에 도래할 대안적 세계를 함께 구상해 보길 제안합니다.
Do Ho Suh: Speculations evokes poetic reflections on contemporary life through allegorical storytelling that blur the lines between reality and fantasy. By responding to crises arising in the changing relationship between humans and their environment through speculative thought, Suh seeks new possibilities for approaching the complexities of emotion and physical life. This exhibition proposes an alternative perspective that traverses the boundaries between reality and imagination, encouraging viewers to envision another world that might emerge from the intersecting of cultures, transnational conditions, and sustainable futures.

서도호가 1991년부터 지금까지 사용해온 스케치북에서 100여 점의 드로잉을 선별해 제작한 아티스트 북 『서도호: 스케치 1991~』은 작가의 사적인 기록이자 내면의 생각이 담긴 드로잉을 통해 서도호의 사유와 상상력이 어디서 출발했는지 엿볼 수 있도록 안내합니다.
The book Do Ho Suh: Sketches 1991~ includes over 100 selected drawings from dozens of sketchbooks that artist Do Ho Suh has been using since 1991 until the present. These drawings provide a glimpse into his intimate thoughts and the origins of his speculations. |
