2️⃣ Yesterday’s ACFM Review |
|
|
From AI-driven changes in film production to investment in Asian content and international co-production, a wide range of programs at the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) examined the future of the film and content industries.
At InnoAsia’s New Cinematic Possibilities: Reimagining Filmmaking with Kling AI, Director Kim Sungsoo and other creators shared their firsthand experiences using AI in production. Kim discussed the production process behind his new AI short film Worm Train and screened excerpts from the film, sharing how he used Kling AI to re-create scenes that had been difficult to realize with conventional technology. “Imagination can wait for technology to catch up, but technology cannot replace imagination,” he said, emphasizing that creators’ imagination and judgment remain at the heart of filmmaking in the AI era.
Thailand: The Next Chapter, which spotlighted Thailand as ACFM’s inaugural Country of Honor, examined opportunities and practical challenges surrounding international co-production in the Thai film industry. Thailand’s diverse locations, skilled stunt professionals, and post-production capabilities were presented as strengths, while differences in production budget scales and co-investment structures across countries were discussed as challenges. Participants noted that Thailand offers more than filming locations, with opportunities to discover new IP and remake content and connect with co-production partners.
The A Summit: Investor Summit & Connect brought together domestic and international investors and distributors to discuss investment strategies for connecting Asian projects with global capital. Following the discussion, participants connected through an open networking session. At Producer Hub, Co-Producing with Japan: Opportunities and Challenges co-hosted by VIPO shared case studies of live-action film and stop-motion animation co-productions. A finance specialist also examined financial incentives, structural hurdles to collaboration, and practical strategies for working with Japanese partners.
Other programs included K-Comics & Webtoon IP Showcase, Documentary WIP Showcase Ⅱ, and InnoAsia AI Creators Camp, as meetings and exchanges among film and content industry professionals continued throughout the day.
