I'm super happy that it was enjoyable.πŸ˜ƒ Now that we've covered K-Drama for a couple of weeks, I thought I would do a mini two-part series of learning from K-pop. This is a topic request I get from you guys every week so I'm happy to teach you Korean from K-pop again! As always, you can leave some lyrics or songs that you want in particular
(for next week), but without further ado let's begin! 😘

1. Maybe Baby - CRAVITY ❀️
This was a song request sent in by one of you lovelies and I really wanted to thank you! Honestly never listened to this song before but I love it~! Anyways, you asked about a specific lyric you didn't understand so I'll teach you what it means!! 😎 

So let’s look at the chorus:

널 μ’‹μ•„ν•˜λ‚˜ 봐
365, λ„€ μ†μž‘κ³  λ§ν•΄μ€„κ²Œ
널 μ’‹μ•„ν•˜λ‚˜ 봐

This is a GREAT question because you guys would probably translate like this:

널 μ’‹μ•„ν•˜λ‚˜ 봐 --> "I see that I like you"

But this sentence actually means "I think I like you" or "Looks like I like you." Let's try to break it down and learn this sentence ending :) 
  • 널 : you 
  • μ’‹μ•„: like 
  • ~ν•˜λ‚˜ 봐: 'looks like' / 'seems like' / 'appears that' 

So when you use the sentence ending "ν•˜λ‚˜ 봐" it basically means "it seems like." You can use this ending in a lot of ways. If you replace the μ’‹μ•„ and change it to "λ―Έμ³€μ–΄" which means "crazy" it would become "λ―Έμ³€λ‚˜λ΄" which means "you/I must be crazy." The ν•˜ in the original sentence can be switched around or even removed (like in this case). 

Bottom line, the lyric means "I guess I like you" or "Looks like I like you!" Hope this was helpful!! ❀️

I have been LOVING this song and one of you asked me to do this as well so I was so happy hehe, let's take a look at some of the lyrics! 

λ‹€λ₯Έ 문을 μ—΄μ–΄ λ”°λΌκ°ˆ ν•„μš”λŠ” μ—†μ–΄
λ„Œ λ„ˆμ˜ 길둜, λ‚œ λ‚˜μ˜ 길둜 음
ν•˜λ£¨ν•˜λ£¨λ§ˆλ‹€ 색이 달라진 λŠλ‚Œ
밝게 빛이 λ‚˜λŠ” 길을 μ°Ύμ•„

This one is a little tough but I wanted to break it down because it is more of a encouraging saying! 

  • λ‹€λ₯Έ: different
  • λ¬Έ: door 
  • μ—΄μ–΄: open 
  • λ”°λΌκ°ˆ: follow 
  • ν•„μš”λŠ” μ—†μ–΄: no need to 

As you guys can probably guess, the first line means "Open a new door, there is no need to follow." While it might not make much sense directly translated, it basically means "There's no need to follow someone else. Just open your own door (of opportunities)!! So inspirational right ? I love this lyric ~ ❀️

Let's do the second line now. 

  • λ„Œ: you 
  • λ„ˆμ˜: your
  • 길둜: path 
  • λ‚œ: me
  • λ‚˜μ˜: my
  • 길둜: path 

This part means "You go on your path, I'll go on mine" which is basically encouraging someone to take their own path not follow others. The song is pretty mistranslated especially this line because they translate to "my way" but that isn't really what it means! My path would be the best translation hehe 😎

Since these got super long, let's end with a question!!! ❀️

"I once read that it’s inappropriate to give your self a korean last name even though you may give yourself a korean first name. In the KPop Group (G) I-dle, the thai member Minnie (Nicha Yontararak) is called β€œKim Minnie” sometimes. Can you explain why this is appropriate?" 

Hello~!!! Yes, well Korean last names have really long history and family behind them. Each of the names are also associated with locations (basically different clans) so yes, in most people's opinions it would come off as kind of weird/insensitive to give yourself a Korean last name. This doesn't really apply to first names as well, but If you are to give yourself a Korean name make sure it is for the right reasons (learning Korean or communication with Koreans) rather than just as a fashion or fancy :) Hope that makes sense. As for Minnie – it is likely that her company gave her the name for convinience since you need a μ„± (last name) and first name for most documents and official purposes. For example for Lisa her Korean name is 라리사 which fits the requirements for the name! This is of course my personal guess and I'm not too sure why her name is κΉ€! But it's certain that she didn't just give it to herself :) Hope that helps!
