Throughout April, Spectrosynthesis Seoul continued its programming with voices from researchers and participating artists across a range of fields. We gathered with Nam Woong (Art Critic), Seo Dongjin (Cultural Critic), and siren eun young jung (Artist) to share perspectives on queer art, its histories, and queer politics. Woojin Jeon’s Dual Knitting, in which two performers sit face-to-face and knit approximately 100kg of industrial electrical cable, continued through March and April. Jahye Khoo presented Exi(s)t Strategy, a performance where two bodies, each carrying the other’s memories, move through the theater, hallways, and the women’s toilet—sharing time with the audience. The final performance will take place on May 4, and we hope to see you there.

Spectrosynthesis Seoul Public Program – May
Ibanjiha, The Making of a “Normal” Family, 2023, Courtesty of the artist
May brings up a full lineup of public programs. Three talks—The Conditions of Korean Queer Art, The Murmurs of Those Without History, and Archiving the Hole: Archives of the Queer Community’s Body and Affect—feature participating artists alongside critics, historians, curators, and researchers across fields. This month’s conversations include Dae Hyun Kim (Historian), Yeon Hye-Won (Researcher), Nam Woong (Art Critic), Minyoung Park (Artist/Activist at Chingusai), Seungwook Yang (Artist), Inhwan Oh (Artist), Hyejin Oh (Literary Critic), and siren eun young jung (Artist). Also in May, Ibanjiha presents The Making of a "Normal" Family, a performance shaped by the artist’s characteristic humor and queer sensibility. Taking on the role of a “normalcy speaker,” the artist twists the format of civic education to raise questions about normality, family, and the gender binary.
