ASEZ Signs MOU with Villar Foundation Philippines — A Significant Step for Nature

On January 28, 2026, ASEZ and the Villar Foundation Philippines signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for environmental cooperation at the auditorium of the LPPWP (Las Piñas–Parañaque Wetland Park).
This agreement outlines mid- to long-term collaboration between the two organizations to protect wetland ecosystems, strengthen climate resilience, and promote community-based sustainability programs. It is particularly meaningful as it formalizes a partnership between ASEZ, a youth-led environmental organization, and one of the Philippines’ leading environmental and social welfare foundations.

Turning the Skudai River Blue Again—Removing Waste and Sowing the Seeds of Blue Carbon

On January 25, 2026, ASEZ members carried out a cleanup campaign along the Skudai River in Johor. This activity was part of the ASEZ ABC (ASEZ Blue Carbon, ABC) movement, a youth-led environmental initiative aimed at restoring river and coastal ecosystems and contributing to climate crisis response. At 8:00 a.m. that day, Iskandar Puteri City Councillor Chua Lee Hui and city council officials visited the site, prepared cleaning equipment, and worked together with ASEZ members to clean an approximately 0.6-mile stretch of the Skudai River. Although the activity lasted only a short time, they carefully collected various types of litter—including plastic bottles, glass bottles, plastic bags, and polystyrene foam—resulting in a total of 23 bags (254 pounds) of waste being removed.

ASEZ Chapter in Cambridge Explores ‘Building AI with a Mother’s Love’

“What would artificial intelligence designed with a mother’s heart look like?” To explore this question, university students from the ASEZ Chapter in Cambridge hosted a forum titled “A Mother’s Love in the Age of AI” on October 30, 2025. The forum was created as a space to reimagine the future of artificial intelligence by placing compassion, care, and human dignity at its center.

Global Issue

World Wetlands Day

On February 2, 1971, a historic meeting for the future of the global ecosystem was held in Ramsar, Iran. The “Ramsar Convention” adopted there was established to protect and ensure the wise use of wetlands worldwide. It marked the first step as the only intergovernmental environmental treaty focused on a specific ecosystem. The Convention aims to prevent the destruction of wetlands—often called the “treasure houses of ecosystems”—and to conserve biodiversity. Since it officially entered into force on December 21, 1975, 173 countries, including the Republic of Korea, have joined as Contracting Parties, continuing conservation efforts beyond national borders.
