지난 29일 서울 이태원에 큰 사고가 있었는데요.

이번 이태원 참사로 생명을 잃은
꽃다운 분들을 추모하며,
또 사랑하는 가족을 잃은 유가족 분들께
깊은 애도와 위로의 마음을 전합니다.

이태원 할로윈 압사 참사

지난 10월 29일 오후10시경, 서울 용산구 이태원에서 압사 참사가 발생했어요.

할로윈을 즐기려 모인 사람들이 좁은 골목에 빽빽하게 서 있다가 넘어지며 사고가 일어난 거에요. 지금까지 150명 이상이 숨지고, 100여명이 다친 것으로 알려졌어요.

At around 10 pm on the 29th, of October, a crushing tragedy occurred in Itaewon, Yonsan-gu, Seoul.

People gathered in Itaewon to enjoy Halloween were standing densely in a narrow alley and fell and an accident occurred. So far, more than 150 people have died in a crush among huge Halloween crowds and more than 100 people have been injured.

이태원은 세계 각국에서 온 이들이 모여 살며 다양한 문화를 나누고 있는 지역으로 한국에서 할로윈을 가장 잘 즐길 수 있는 장소로 꼽혀요. 그래서 매년 할로윈(10월 31일) 기간에 수많은 사람들이 모여요.

코로나 19 방역 조치로 3년 간 잠잠했지만, 방역 조치가 느슨해 지면서 전보다 더 많은 사람이 이태원을 찾을 거라는 예상이 나왔고, 실제로 역대급 인파가 몰렸어요. 하지만 대비가 부족했던 게 사고로 이어졌다는 지적이 나와요.

지금 상황은? what's the situation now?

정부, 지자체, 경찰, 의료진이 대응하고 있어요. 경찰은 사고가 왜 일어났는지 조사하고, 사망자가 누구인지를 신원 확인하는 데 힘을 쏟고 있어요. 미성년자·외국인은 주민등록이 되지 않은 경우가 있어 신원을 파악하는 데 시간이 걸리고 있어요.

The government, local governments, police, and medical staff are responding. The police are investigating why the accident happened and are working hard to identify who the dead are. There are cases where minors and foreigners do not have resident registration, so it takes time to determine their identity.

정부는 용산구를 특별재난지역으로 정했고, 유족에는 위로금·장례비, 부상자에는 치료비를 지원해요.또 10월 30일부터 11월 5일까지가 국가애도기간으로 정해 서울광장·이태원 광장에 합동분향소도 마련했어요. 현재 온오프라인을 막론하고, 할로윈 관련으로 행사나 이벤트들은 대부분 중지되거나 연기되었어요.

The government has designated Yongsan-gu as a special disaster zone and provides consolation and funeral expenses for the bereaved and medical expenses for the injured. From October, 30th to November 5th, the national mourning period has been set. A joint incense burner was also set up in Seoul Plaza and Itaewon Plaza.
