🌝Celebrating Chuseok at Charlie's Big Red House

This September, we're excited to celebrate Chuseok, one of Korea's most cherished holidays, right here at Charlie's Big Red House! Our festivities kicked off with an engaging introduction to Chuseok, where children learned about the rich history, rituals, and significance of this Korean harvest festival.

To get into the spirit of the occasion, we combined creativity with cultural learning. The children enthusiastically decorated pictures of Korean 'hanbok' using 'Hanji paper', a traditional Korean paper known for its texture and beauty, and made their very own 'Chuseok Minibooks' filled with fun facts and tidbits about the holiday. This activity allowed them to express their artistic sides while deepening their understanding of Chuseok's customs.
But the fun didn’t stop there! In preparation for next week’s games, the children also crafted their own 'Ttakji'—Korean paper discs used in a flipping game that’s both simple and competitive. The process of making Ttakji taught them about resourcefulness and the importance of friendly competition in Korean culture.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, we played an autumn-themed game with 'leaf-shaped Post-its, where the kids had to guess hidden Chuseok-related words written on the back of each leaf. This playful activity not only reinforced their learning but also brought the colors and themes of fall into our celebration.

As we look ahead, we’re excited to dive deeper into the history and traditions of Chuseok, exploring more games, crafts, and culinary delights with our friends. The anticipation is building as we prepare for next week's main event—making and tasting the delicious rice cake 'Injeolmi', a special treat that perfectly embodies the warmth and gratitude of the Chuseok holiday. Stay tuned as we continue our journey through this beautiful celebration of family, harvest, and heritage!

We hope this version adds more depth and excitement to your Chuseok celebration at Charlie’s Big Red House!
