September 2023-09 vol.93

Our hearts flutter with excitement as banners advertising festivals flutter here and there in the cool autumn breeze. Visit Seoul has prepared a special food tour course to welcome the autumn season, a time for culinary delights. Oraegages has been selected with the hope of ensuring the longevity of businesses with over 30 years of history and tradition in Seoul. Let's embark on a delicious journey through time following the iconic Korean comfort food, tteokbokki, and traditional Chuseok dishes.

Tteokbokki Road in Gangnam

The spicy and sweet red sauce-coated, chewy tteokbokki is a typical Korean comfort food and a nostalgic dish. Whether from street food stalls, local snack shops near schools, or the instant type cooked with various toppings like ramen and dumplings, tteokbokki never fails to meet your expectation. Amidst the overflowing trends of a variety of food in Gangnam, there is an oraegage tteokbokki gem that has preserved the traditional taste.

Nestled between the high-rise apartments in Gangnam, Eunma Shopping Mall has served as a marketplace for ordinary people for a long time. Here, you'll find Manna Bunsik, which has been in business since 1974, receiving lots of love from its customers for remaining unchanged despite the passage of time.Apple House is yet another go-to spot known for its tteokbokki and side dishes like seasoned dumplings, this place. As the autumn breeze begins to cool down, if you want to awaken your taste buds with spicy tteokbokki and a steaming bowl of fish cake soup, then Visit Seoul’s Oraegage Tteokbokki Road is the place to be.

Oraegage Food Tour

Chuseok is a holiday where families gather in the season of harvest to share their appreciation and love while feasting over good food. Perhaps that explains a saying in Korea, “No more, no less, just like Hangawi”, wishing things are always like they are on Chuseok.

Especially during the holidays in Korea, tteok (rice cakes) and side dishes are essential. Even former presidents frequented Nakwon Tteokjip in Jongno, known as the oldest rice cake shop in Korea. Dongyang Bangatgan, a peculiar triangular-shaped building in Buam-dong, has been making rice cakes using traditional methods for over 40 years. Also, there's Seoul's premier bakery, Taegeukdang, an establishment that takes pride in its 70 years of tasty goodness. To match the vibe of the season, they offer various gift sets for Chuseok as well, making a great gift idea for family and friends! You can find a slew of other specialty restaurants that are guaranteed to make your mouth water! For more details of the oraegage food tour, be sure to check out the Visit Seoul website!
