Chuseok is a holiday where families gather in the season of harvest to share their appreciation and love while feasting over good food. Perhaps that explains a saying in Korea, “No more, no less, just like Hangawi”, wishing things are always like they are on Chuseok.
Especially during the holidays in Korea, tteok (rice cakes) and side dishes are essential. Even former presidents frequented Nakwon Tteokjip in Jongno, known as the oldest rice cake shop in Korea. Dongyang Bangatgan, a peculiar triangular-shaped building in Buam-dong, has been making rice cakes using traditional methods for over 40 years.
