We bring you useful information and news from Hive! Greetings from Hive Platform! ๐
Recently, the U.S. Senate reintroduced the COPPA 2.0 bill to strengthen the protection of childrenโs online privacy. As seen in the U.S., Europe, and other regions, regulations around services for children are becoming increasingly strict. In the gaming industry, it is now more important than ever to establish systematic processes that comply with these legal frameworks.
In this episode of Hive Insight, weโll introduce the Compliance Features provided by Hive to help you navigate the global compliance landscape. |

๐ Compliance โ A Must for Global Expansion ๐๏ธ |
Compliance refers to all voluntary activities by a company to understand and follow relevant laws, regulations, standards, and ethical practices. This includes designing and operating game services in compliance with privacy protection, in-app purchases and refunds, child and teen protection, advertising and marketing regulations, and intellectual property rights.
However, maintaining compliance in practice can be challenging. While focusing on game development, itโs difficult to track and adapt to local and international legal changesโespecially since policies evolve frequently and new issues continue to arise.
To help developers focus on building and operating games without worrying about compliance risks, Hive provides systems that incorporate a wide range of global compliance requirements. |

โ๏ธ GDPR(General Data Protection Regulation) |
GDPR is the European Unionโs data protection law, which applies to all companies that collect or use the personal data of EU citizens. Even if your servers or company are not based in Europe, you must comply if European users access or register for your game.
If a userโs IP is from a GDPR-covered region, an Age-gate is presented. Based on the user's age, the appropriate consent steps for parental approval and terms agreement will follow.

โ๏ธ COPPA(Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act) |
COPPA is a U.S. law that requires parental consent before collecting or using personal information from children under the age of 13. If your app complies with COPPA, you must configure the relevant settings in Hive SDK and Console. When a user logs in from a U.S. IP address, the COPPA flow will be triggered.
Users identified as under 13 via the Age-gate will be limited to guest login and will have restricted access to features such as push notifications and data collection.

As the age threshold for youth protection varies by country, itโs essential to flexibly configure consent settings according to local laws.
Hive supports setting Age-gate rules based on country-specific age standards. For minors, you can require input of birthdate and guardian email verification to obtain legal guardian consent before allowing app use.

โ๏ธ European DMA (Digital Markets Act) |
DMA is the EUโs Digital Markets Act designed to prevent market dominance abuse by major platforms like Google, Apple, and Meta. One key rule is the prohibition of personalized advertising without user consent.
To comply, Hive supports setting consent for ad and marketing data collection through either the Google UMP pop-up or Hiveโs own consent banner. The system is designed to adapt to different marketing platforms flexibly.
