Do Ho Suh: Speculations is now on view throughout the entire Art Sonje Center building. Our September newsletter highlights this solo exhibition by Do Ho Suh, along with the release of artist book featuring his drawings. We are also excited to announce the grand re-opening of THE BOOKS in Hanok.

《서도호: 스페큘레이션스》는 완성된 결과물로서 작품을 보여주는 통상적인 전시와 달리 서도호의 예술적 실천 그 저변을 이루는 개념, 과정, 조사에 초점을 맞추어 서도호가 가진 사유의 흐름을 드로잉, 축소된 모형, 시뮬레이션 영상으로 시각화해 펼쳐 보입니다. 바다와 하늘을 가로질러 서울의 한옥을 런던으로 옮기거나, 작가의 기억이 담긴 장소를 트럭에 싣는 등 물리적으로 불가능한 도전에서부터, 기념비를 둘러싼 관습과 권력 구조를 해체하고 전복하는 등 시스템에 대한 도전에 이르기까지, 20년에 걸친 서도호의 폭 넓은 시도를 한 자리에서 만나볼 수 있습니다.

Do Ho Suh: Speculations provides viewers an opportunity to experience Suh’s process of contemplating new possibilities. Rather than presenting “completed works,” this exhibition focuses on the process, concepts and investigations that lie at the centre of Suh’s practice. It is a visual representation of Suh’s lines of thought. The exhibition showcases a broad range of Suh’s endeavors over 20 years, from physically improbable challenges like moving a traditional Korean house from Seoul to London, or transporting a place imbued with the artist’s memories via truck, to dismantling and subverting systems involving monuments and power structures.

서도호가 1991년부터 지금까지 사용해온 스케치북에서 100여 점의 드로잉을 선별해 제작한 아티스트 북 『서도호: 스케치 1991~』이 출간되었습니다! 이번 아티스트 북은 작가의 사적인 기록이자 내면의 생각이 담긴 드로잉을 통해 서도호의 사유와 상상력이 어디서 출발했는지 엿볼 수 있도록 안내합니다.

The book Do Ho Suh: Sketches 1991~ has been released! This book includes over 100 selected drawings from dozens of sketchbooks that artist Do Ho Suh has been using since 1991 until the present. These drawings provide a glimpse into his intimate thoughts and the origins of his speculations.

아트선재센터는 업사이클링하여 옷을 디자인하고 생산하는 브랜드 래코드(RE;CODE)와 서도호가 함께 협업한 티셔츠를 선보입니다. 서도호가 천을 재료 삼아 집을 만드는 과정에서 분리되어 나온 패턴 조각을 래코드가 활용하는 소각 위기에 처해진 의류나 자재와 결합한 티셔츠입니다. 재고를 최소화하기 위해 전시 기간 동안 래코드 공식 홈페이지와 코오롱몰에서 선주문을 받아 판매하며 더북스에서 티셔츠 실물을 확인하실 수 있습니다.

Art Sonje Center has collaborated with RE;CODE, an innovative brand specializing in upcycled fashion, and Do Ho Suh to present a unique t-shirt collection. This limited-edition line features designs crafted from pattern scraps of Suh‘s fabric-based house works, paired with apparel materials that were on the brink of being incinerated. To reduce excess production, these t-shirts will be available exclusively for pre-order during the exhibition period through RE;CODE’s official website and Kolon Mall. Visitors can view the collection in person at THE BOOKS.
